Audi Q2 SUV – refreshed with a new front drive 1.5-litre 35 TFSI variant.

Audi’s Q2 premium compact SUV hit a sweet spot with buyers here when it arrived in 2017. In May it was refreshed, the 2.0-litre turbo quattro joined by a 1.5-litre front wheel drive variant. The 1.5-litre 110kW 35 TFSI seven-speed dual clutch automatic now kicks off Q2 pricing at $42,990, the 2.0-litre 140kW 40 TFSi quattro seven-speed auto priced at $49,990. The refresh sees a number of styling updates giving the Audi Q2 more character, the headlights more distinctive with the front air inlets more expressive while 18-inch alloy wheels are standard.
Importantly the Q2 carries a local five-star ANCAP safety rating. What I like about this compact Audi SUV is its package size – great for a retired couple in a very comfortable, practical and classy interior – with full leather trim, wireless phone charging, LED headlights and a proprietary navigation system. Cabin quality and ergonomics are high points in the Audi tradition. Driver assist features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, what Audi call parking system plus with sensors and a rear-view camera, and a welcome powered tailgate.
Instrumentation is simply one of the best in the business, the 2.0-litre model gaining Audi’s excellent virtual cockpit instrument display. Audi offer a well-priced five-year service plan package for $2,280 while the German brands three year/unlimited kilometre warranty remains a disappointment. Drive impressions next segment.
