Queensland is home to some of the world’s best beaches and holiday destinations, and now one of our own has been crowned the best snorkeling destination in the world, according Lonely Planet.

Lady Elliot Island, located in the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, stamped out fierce competition from snorkeling destinations in Brazil, Malawi, Egypt, and the Philippines to take out the top spot.

Custodian, Peter Gash told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, “It’s stunningly beautiful… it’s Queensland’s absolute gem.”
