75th anniversary of Thai Burma railway
The 75th anniversary of the completion of the Thai Burma Railway has been marked at The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial in Ballarat.
Around 13,000 Australian POWs laboured on the railway and more than 2,700 were worked and starved to death by their Japanese captors.
Perhaps no section of the railway was more notorious than Hellfire Pass and Australian War Memorial historian Dr Lachlan Grant tells Mark no-one will ever know how many Australians perished there.
