One Nation leader claims al-Jazeera sting is ‘poisonous for our democracy’

One Nation has hit back at foreign media organisation, al-Jazeera, for “entrapping” party officials.

The sting found One Nation chief of staff James Ashby and its Queensland leader Steve Dickson tried to garner millions of dollars from the National Rifle Association in America.

They promised the money would be used to win greater parliamentary power and weaken Australia’s tough gun laws.

Mr Ashby has claimed alcohol was involved in the secretly filmed meetings with the powerful US gun lobby.

NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham tells Alan Jones the TV network embedded itself within One Nation by using deceptive means.

“I mean, it’s poisonous for our democracy that public representatives can’t treat lobby groups and constituents at face value.

“This three-year entrapment exercise is completely unprecedented in the history of Australian democracy.”

However, he also says the plan to weaken Australia’s gun laws is a mistake.
