NSW-QLD war of words erupts over controversial new land tax rule
Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick has hit back at NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet over his refusal to co-operate with the state government’s controversial land tax.
Coming into effect from June next year, residents will have to pay land tax based on their property portfolio Australia-wide.
Mr Perrottet slammed the policy as “lazy” and has refused to offer up the data to the government.
But Mr Dick hit back in a fiery retort this afternoon.
“Dom Perrottet has got some hide lecturing to us about land tax, this is a bloke who wants to put an annual land tax on every home in NSW, forever,” he said.
But Neil Breen said it was another example of how the Queensland government struggled to establish a working relationship with their state counterparts.
He said the government had a “dreadful relationship” with NSW, which had a proven track record of working with Victoria and other states.
“Our government, they can stand on their digs, and that’s fine, but you have to get on with other people if you want to get complex things over the line. And we simply don’t get on with everyone,” Neil said.
“We’ve got an Olympics coming here, we need the help of everyone in Australia.”
