More pain on the way at the bowser, drivers urged to shop around
Motorists are being told to shop around for fuel, with some service stations in Brisbane charging over $2 per litre.
Experts say it’s only going to get worse too when the reduction of the fuel excise is wound back in September.
Chris Ford from Compare the Market told Sofie Formica prices will skyrocket around September.
“It is due to finish in September so that full excise will be applied … in terms of prices, we could be looking north of $2.30 a litre at $2.40 will be right now when you include that 22 cents plus GST that would be on the full excise.”
He says it’s an “incredibly expensive time for motorists”.
There are more than 150 stations over $2.15 a litre, mainly in the inner ring suburbs.
