Former minister for industrial relations Michaelia Cash has admitted the Senate had no plans to change unfair dismissal laws but has welcomed the review into workplace relations.

The Federal Government has announced a review of industrial relations laws and will look at the Small Business Fair Dismissal Code.

The Ombudsman has said it wants the laws changed so small businesses can more easily dismiss staff.

Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business Senator Michaelia Cash tells Ross Greenwood she is pleased the attorney general will review the laws.

“Certainly, under the previous Senate, there were no plans to change those unfair dismissal laws. I think I needed 11 additional votes, every single time.

“I would certainly say to small businesses out there, put in your case for change to the attorney general.”
