Mental health services report surge in pandemic-driven calls for help

Mental health services are reporting a surge in women seeking support due to extra pressures created by the pandemic.

The Banyans Healthcare Group, based in Brisbane, has recorded a 140 per cent jump in inquiries this year asking for help to overcome burnout and chronic stress.

A staggering 65 per cent of those inquiries came from women.

“I think generally women are usually better at asking for help, but I honestly think, Spencer, they’ve got to the end of themselves,” CEO Ruth Limkin said.

“They’re normally fairly good at just being stoic and moving on but it’s beyond them.

“There’s a complete lack of joy, there’s a complete feeling of overwhelm that just doesn’t go away.”
