A man has been shot dead by police after he allegedly lunged at an officer with a samurai sword at a home in Brisbane’s south-west.

Police were called to a property at Doolandella before 5.30am after receiving reports a man armed with a sword was behaving erratically.

Two women – the man’s partner and a housemaid- as well as four children under 10, were inside the house at the time.

Officers negotiated with the 41-year-old man for over two hours in what they described as a “siege incident”.

The man eventually released all six occupants before lunging at an officer.

The senior constable fired multiple shots, resulting in the man’s death.
