Maccas customers reportedly stung with $77 parking fines

neil breen

Customers have reportedly been fined for parking too long at some McDonald’s stores on the Sunshine Coast.

The Maroochydore and Sippy Downs both have one-hour parking limits in place in the car parks.

Some customers have been stung with a $77 dollar parking fine.

Traffic lawyer Andrew Wiseman explained on Brisbane Live private companies can’t issue fines.

“Most people wouldn’t even know their rights … and a lot of these signages are that small a print that people don’t even know the signage is there much less the conditions on it.

“A lot of people would think it’s a government issued document, just pay it automatically fearing referral to spur and the likes, but that simply doesn’t ply to private companies that have issued what they like to call a fine or a breach notice.”

Caller Rod said he went to the Maroochydore store back in August after a child’s netball break-up.

Out of a group of around 25 people, four have been fined, he said.
