Lord Mayor blasts Brisbane councillor for ‘hypothetical advice’ on squatting

A Brisbane councillor has been accused of encouraging illegal squatting in a social media post.
Greens councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan yesterday appeared to insinuate Brisbane’s homeless should use census data to locate unoccupied homes.
“This is a helpful way of identifying the neighbourhoods … where you’re more likely to be able to find a suitable place to squat,” he wrote.
Mr Sriranganathan maintains the comments were “just hypothetical advice” but Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner isn’t convinced.
“Posting about squatting (which is unlawful), but then claiming he would never encourage anyone to break the law is incredibly disingenuous,” Mr Schrinner hit back.
It’s sickening to see the Greens Councillor for the Gabba misusing using his position to promote the idea of people illegally squatting in someone else’s home. pic.twitter.com/hTJNT9E1Is
