LNP pushes for change to Cross River Rail to honour late Queen

The Cross River Rail will be renamed in honour of the late Queen if a petition by the LNP is successful.
State leader David Crisafulli has this morning proposed the state’s first underground rail line be called the Elizabeth Line.
The idea mirrors the opening of the ‘Crossrail project’ in London, also dubbed the Elizabeth Line, earlier this year for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
“We think this is a good, cost-effective way to rename something that will be generational and it’ll ensure the Queen’s memory remains in Queensland,” Mr Crisafulli told Laurel, Gary & Mark.

Laurel’s suggestion that Brisbane already has landmarks with the Queen’s name weren’t enough to give pause to the Opposition Leader.
“Laurel, I respect that, I’ll make the point though, we didn’t do anything for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee,” he continued.
“We’re not talking about short-term service, we’re talking about 70 years and I think the outpouring of emotion shows the community value and respect her service.”
