Jumping for joy: International pilot finally tastes freedom

Gary Hardgrave

A Qantas pilot can finally “have a life” outside work as Queensland prepares to lift quarantine rules.

The Premier yesterday announced quarantine will no longer be required for international travellers who have had two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr Kate Gazzard told Neil Breen it was the news her husband Tim was waiting to hear for more than two years.

She said every time Tim came home from an international flight, he’d be forced into quarantine.

“He had a period of about four weeks of flying at the end of 2020, where he was continually in hotel quarantine,” she said.

“He would do nothing more than go from a hotel room to an aeroplane, back to a hotel room.”

Dr Gazzard said while they could respect the rules at first, when community cases started to ramp up “there just seemed to be no sense”.

“That was when I started to get a little bit cranky and started writing to the Queensland government about their rules.
