Each year in the lead up to January 26, a debate ensues about changing Australia’s national day.

4BC Drive will speak to Australians with differing views in the coming days.

Des Rogers, a board member of the Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation group, ANTaR, has been advocating for a date change.

“It means a lot of things to me as a First Nations person, I was born in Alice Springs back in 1951,” he told Scott Emerson.

“It’s Invasion Day for me, it’s a not a day for chucking a snag on the barbie, and going down to the beach, it’s a day that I reflect on about my ancestors but how First Nations people have been treated for over 230 plus years, I think it’s absolutely appalling.”

On Tuesday’s show, Scott spoke to Indigenous academic and commentator Anthony Dillon about his view.
