‘If not now, when?’: Heartache over WA Premier’s border backflip
Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has delayed reopening the state’s borders indefinitely in a move that’s been met with criticism and heartache across the country.
The state was due to reopen to the rest of the country and internationally on February 5, but in an emergency press conference overnight Premier McGowan pushed the date back amid concerns over the Omicron variant.
6PR radio host Oliver Peterson said it was one of the hardest days of his life.
“My parents live there in Sydney and I have a now 5-month-old who has never met his grandparents, and we were just counting down the days, we had 16 to go and we were going to finally get Henry to meet his grandparents and that has gone up in smoke,” he told Scott Emerson.
He said there was no indication now when the state would open up.
“We are only at 96 per cent one dose.”
He said people on the talkback line were questioning the decision,”if not now, when?”
