How the Brisbane public can be part of ‘historic’ royal commission into veteran suicides

Gary Hardgrave

The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide will begin its public hearings in Brisbane this Friday.

The culture and systemic issues within the Defence Force, and how they impact mental health and suicide rates among veterans, will be examined.

The Official Secretary Of The Royal Commission Dr James Popple told Neil Breen it’s open for everyone to attend.

“We are inviting Brisbane people to be part of this historical occasion – both the ceremonial opening and also the hearings that follow.

“It’s an important milestone for those affected by the tragedy of suicide.

“Commissioners will have an opportunity to learn from the personal experience of those who served and also their families, so they can identify some of the systemic issues and risk factors that can lead to suicide.”
