Australia has a huge task ahead to lure tourists to our shores in the next few months.

Yesterday the date was set, from February 21 Australia will welcome fully vaccinated international travellers, quarantine free.

CEO of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Andrew McKellar, said there was a lot of work to do, including how incoming passengers will be screened and processed.

“It’s going to be a big job to revitalise Australia’s international image, we have to compete with some other major markets, and we are really going to have to get out there and promote Australia as a destination in that international marketplace,” he told Scott Emerson.

“It’s going to have to be a significant investment, we can’t just assume people will be queuing up to come in.”

He said Tourism Australia needs to have a budget o $240-$250 million and bring forward a new campaign, slated to be launched in September.
