Senator Pauline Hanson has renewed her push to ban the burqa in Australia.

At least ten European nations have now implemented either a full or partial burqa prohibition. Denmark became the latest to clampdown on the garment in May, after it was declared “incompatible with Danish society and disrespectful to the community.”

“I hope that people wake up to themselves and put pressure on the government to do the same here,” says Hanson.

“The politicians seem to ignore this, especially the Labor Party,” she tells Luke Grant.

“I don’t mind if they want to wear the scarf, the niqab, but not the full covering of the face.”

Ms Hanson cited concerns around national security and also construes the garment as oppressive and subordinating to women.

In other matters, One Nation’s deployment of Mark Latham in yesterday’s “robocall” was also addressed by Ms Hanson, who denied the pre-recorded message was a sign of things to come.

“He’s not standing under the banner of One Nation at an election, though everyone is speculating that,” says Hanson.

“The message he has communicated is forget about the major political parties, give the minor parties a go because it’s not working with the majors.”
