Tourism operators on the Gold Coast celebrated the news that Queensland had passed that crucial 80 per cent fully vaccinated milestone today.

From Monday families will be reuniting and tourists will be flocking back to the Sunshine State’s tourism destinations.

CEO of Destination Gold Coast Patricia O’Callahan said she celebrated when the news came through today.

She said there is pent-up demand, which they were seeing through bookings.

“We’re hearing very much that from that time the bookings are certainly coming though, not just through aviation but it’s also through occupancy and hotels as well.”

She said the demand surged this week, after news of the border re-opening on Monday.
