Friends of Balmoral Cemetery launch quirky Christmas gift idea

Spencer Howson

For anyone looking for a quirky stocking stuffer this Christmas, the 2023 Balmoral Cemetery Calendar has been launched.

The calendars feature 14 images of the grounds, all shot by local photographers.

Friends of Balmoral Cemetery vice president Jenny Pearsall told Spencer Howson all funds raised will go to a good cause.

“Our main activity is in cleaning our veteran graves,” she said. “We found, a few years ago, 300 WWI veterans buried in the cemetery.

“But sadly, 75 of those were in unmarked graves and many of those that were in graves, the family had moved away and the graves were looking very sad and untidy.

“If we can raise enough money, we really need to install the rest of our big plaques, we’ve got 10 of those, and we want to put them on a nice concrete backing.”
