Flood compensation to be rolled out in QLD soon, federal government vows
Emergency Management Minister Murray Watt has admitted flood-impacted Queenslanders would have liked to see compensation rolled out sooner.
But he said he had received an update from state government officials on the Build Back Better scheme, and was confident money would be made available soon to those who have applied for the assistance.
Peter Fegan, filling in on Brisbane Live, says there are still people sleeping in tents are still waiting.
Senator Watt said he has been advised by state government officials that the first payments will be made soon.
The scheme is jointly funded by the state and federal governments.
“I was actually talking to a couple of members of the state government about this last night .. I think realistically people would have liked to see money out the door a bit more quickly,” he said.
“In the state government’s defense, it is a brand new program.”
