Lloyd Clarke is pushing for a national approach to tackling family violence.

Hannah’s father, Lloyd and Sue Clarke founded the Small Steps for Hannah Foundation, in the wake of the horrific deaths of their daughter Hannah and her three young children at the hands of her estranged husband.

With the federal election just days away, the Clarke’s are pushing to put the scourge of family violence on the agenda.

“That’s where it’s been let down all over, it’s not just state by state, we need laws to go nationally, especially coercive control laws, and the government has to start putting their short arms in their long pockets and start funding, police particularly so they can be trained properly in stopping these signs,” he told Peter Psaltis, filling in on 4BC Drive.

He says there’s so much more to be done, including education in schools about relationships, as well as short-term housing for women and that the scourge of family violence is only getting worse.

“When you look at it, Queensland is the only state that has stepped up front … hopefully by next year, laws will be passed, we will have coercive laws in that it is illegal to be coercive, then hopefully some more states will follow.”
