An emergency alert has been issued for coastal areas from Broadbeach to Jacobs Well and South Stradbroke Island. 

Tropical Cyclone Alfred impacts are expected overnight and advice has been to take shelter.

Acting Gold Coast Mayor, Donna Gates, told Jason Matthews, “We always knew this would happen if the cyclone crossed north of our city.”

“Because we would receive the greatest southerly impact of anyone in the local government area.”

“So we’ve been preparing for it, we’ve known it’s coming, and it’s happening now,” Acting Mayor Gates continued.
