Doctor’s fight over parking fine on private street

A former Queenslander of the Year has found himself in a stoush over an $88 parking fine on a on the Gold Coast.
Dr Dinesh Palipana, an emergency doctor and co-founder of Doctors With Disabilities, parked on a privately owned street in Broadbeach recently.
Dr Palipana, who is a quadriplegic, thought it was a council street, where wheelchair users are exempt from paying for parking.
“I pulled in, I assumed it’s a normal street and the normal rules apply, I put up my permit and got out, and came back there was the fine,” he told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.
He said his attempts to appeal the fine have been unsuccessful.
