South-East Queensland Councils are imposing fees after the state government introduced an amendment to a law to address the housing crisis.

The state government has attempted to tackle Queensland’s housing crisis by amending a law that would allow homeowners to lease individual rooms.

Founder of the Australian Housing Initiative, Ian Ugarte, told Peter Gleeson, “So the council have now gone out and started to charge…what they would charge a normal developer, when it’s mum and dad investors that are actually doing this to fix the housing market.”

“It’s just an impossible place for someone to think that a council, especially the mayors, they’re all saying we need more housing, and the planning department inside the councils that are stopping this from happening,” Mr. Ugarte continued.
