Brisbane’s ferry network has now been fully restored after the devastating floods last year.

North Quay and Regatta, the terminals that sustained the most damage, are reopening today.

Brisbane City Council says the network is now more resilient than ever before.

“Every flood is a lesson for the planners and engineers who work on these terminals and on our CityCats,” Civic Cabinet Chair for Transport Ryan Murphy told Laurel, Gary & Mark.

“The gangways did not swing back quickly enough, so we’ve changed the buoyancy tanks underneath the terminals so they’ll swing about half a metre earlier in a flood.

“What happened was, so much debris had built up on those terminals, by the time the river reached the height for the gangways to swing back, they were actually locked up and couldn’t move.”
