Could Queensland be in for a name change?

Could Queensland become the ‘Sunrise State’?

The Brisbane Times  reports a government body, Trade and Investment Queensland, registered for the “Sunrise State” trademark in Australia earlier this year.

“It’s a phrase that Treasurer Cameron Dick used in this year’s state budget speech,” Scott Emerson said.

At the time, the Treasurer said he likes to call Queensland the Sunrise State.

“Queensland has long been called the Sunshine State; I like to think of it as the Sunrise State, because Queenslanders take each day as it comes, and we back ourselves every step of the way,” he said.

It’s not clear what it could be used for.

Scott “doesn’t like it at all”.
