A boy has been hit and killed by a ute in the New South Wales Riverina.

The seven-year-old was hit by the reversing vehicle in the driveway of a home at Temora, at around 2pm on Sunday.

Emergency services were called but the boy died at the scene.

The driver of the ute, a 35-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
