An Ipswich councillor has locked horns with Peter Fegan while defending her support for restoring disgraced former mayor Paul Pisasale’s name to city assets.

Nicole Jonic was one of five councillors who yesterday voted to keep Pisasale Drive in Yamanto and Paul Pisasale Bridge in Springfield named as is.

It comes after Pisasale was sentenced to 7.5 years behind bars in 2020 for more than 30 serious crimes, including official corruption, extortion and sexual assault.

Peter, filling in for Scott Emerson, has been flooded with feedback from listeners appalled at the decision not to strip Pisasale of the naming honour.

He suggested to Ms Jonic from the outside, the vote to restore Pisasale’s name doesn’t seem to pass the pub test.

Nicole Jonic: “Why should we erase prior historic unethical behaviour with unethical behaviour?”

Peter Fegan: “He’s a convicted sex criminal! It doesn’t matter-”

Nicole Jonic: “I know!”

Peter was ultimately forced to cut Ms Jonic off when the pair could not see eye-to-eye, later describing her comments as “the biggest load of crap I’ve ever seen”.

“The babble that I was just fed is an insult to both the listeners and myself,” he said.
