Just when you thought the world had reached peak madness, apparently teachers need a new name.

A London-based cognitive scientist has taken aim at the word ‘teacher’, saying educators need to be called something different.

To reflect their current role, Professor Guy Claxton says teachers should now be known as “learning designers”.

Professor Claxton says a teacher’s role is more about encouraging “soft skills” rather than imparting knowledge.

Chris Smith can’t believe what he’s hearing and is calling it “absolute lunacy”.

“Have I missed something here?

“What do teachers do? They teach!”

But this professor has a track record of controversial calls.

He’s also called rubbers the “tool of the devil” because they make children feel ashamed of their errors.
