‘Absurd’ price-gouging from taxi, ride-share drivers out of control in city streets

Brisbane locals trying to get home after a night out are reporting shocking levels of price-gouging and increased levels of alcohol-fuelled violence on city streets.
Neil Breen says taxi drivers and ride share drivers are holding young people to ransom, demanding outlandish fares to get home.
Fortitude Valley precinct secretary Alex Hall agreed, saying the situation was increasingly dangerous and difficult for people trying to get home after a night out in the popular nightspot.
“No one can get home, we are seeing so many young kids trying to get home with taxis and Ubers, and price gouging is absurd,” he told Neil Breen.
He said there’s more alcohol-fuelled violence, with people unable to get home, piling out onto the street.
“Ubers keep cancelling and cancelling and cancelling,” he said.
“The biggest thing we are seeing from this is the sexual assault which has come from this.”
