Australia’s seniors will be called on to rise up with a massive nationwide push to combat ageism.

The multi-pronged campaign expected to launch in autumn aims to tackle discrimination and shatter stereotypes in an attempt to make ageism unacceptable.

The Benevolent Society says this is about changing social norms by addressing age discrimination in the same way as racism and sexism.

Keryn Curtis is a senior policy advisor on aging from the Benevolent Society and she speaks with Mark Levy on why Aussies need this campaign.

“The workplace isn’t as flexible as it could be and it doesn’t recognise those ways older people can contribute.

“Lots of older people are actually happy to work part-time.”
