Teenager who ran over policeman to be released in March

A teenage boy who ran down a Queensland police officer has been sentenced to three years in detention but will be released in half that time.
The then 16-year-old boy was out on bail last year, for another offence, and attempting to avoid arrest when he ran over the police officer and dragged him several metres.
24-year-old Constable Peter McAulay was placed into an induced coma after suffering serious head injuries, broken bones and spinal injuries.
He underwent 10 surgeries but he still requires more.
Today, the boy was handed a three-year detention sentence in Ipswich Children’s Court but he will be released in March next year, after serving half his sentence with time already served.
