‘All visits will be unannounced’: Reforms to aged-care unveiled
In good news for the beleaguered aged-care sector, aged-care residential facilities will now be the subject of unannounced accreditation audits.
The unexpected visits will occur without notice, in a bid to catch out contraventions and transgressions throughout the scandal-plagued industry.
Inspectors will ensure all requirements are up to scratch, ranging from food standards, cleanliness to staffing regimes.
Ian Yates, Chief Executive from the Council on the Ageing Australia, says this is a big step forward for the sector, who is looking down the barrel of what’s expected to be a scathing royal commission.
“This is the government delivering on its promise to ensure this becomes the overwhelming way in which the current quality agency but also the new Quality and Safety Commission will interact with the sector.”
“They’re stopping the practice of announced visits, all visits will become unannounced.”
“The government is also putting more resources in, so there will be even more players and inspectors out there doing it.”
