Gold Coast light rail plan scrapped

The Queensland Government announced that the final stage of the light rail project has been scrapped. The multi-billion-dollar project that would have connected Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta and the Gold Coast Airport will instead be replaced by more rapid buses.

Local MP for Burleigh, Herman Vorster, told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, “Although light rail stage four won’t proceed, we will have a far superior rapid bus system connecting Burleigh to the airport.”

“We’re also developing a whole-of-city transport plan. It’s a much more holistic approach, and it’s not going to splurge $9.85 billion replacing a pretty good bus service.” Vorster continued.
