‘Most tragic week in many years’: Ten lives lost on Queensland roads over the weekend

It was a tragic weekend on Queensland roads, with ten lives lost, bringing the total to 16 in the past week.

Acting Chief Superintendent of Road Policing Steve Newland told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast that police are frustrated, saying, “So far this year you know we’ve done almost 300,000 hours of enforcement focused on road safety initiatives and we’ve identified more than 78,000 speeding offences.”

“That’s just too many, and we’ve also identified more than 24,000 drink drivers and 6,000 drug drivers out on our roads.”

“So, people are still taking those risks, and it is unacceptable,” Acting Chief Steve Newland said.
