‘May be the only option’: Adrian Schrinner says Story Bridge toll is a ‘last resort option’

Peter Fegan

A new report has suggested that the 85-year-old Story Bridge is in such a bad state that tolls may need to be implemented to restore it.

When asked about the possibility of a usage toll, Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “That decision would have to be made at the state government level, so from me, it’s a no.”

“But ultimately, if the other levels of government don’t step up, that may be the only option left on the table,” The Lord Mayor continued.

Brisbane City Council’s Labor Opposition Leader Jared Cassidy told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, “This is now panic stations in saving the Story Bridge, but I really don’t think council should be allowed to manage it.”
