Tips for keeping your home cool (and preparing for a heatwave)

sofie formica

As the south east swelters through a humid heatwave, Queenslanders are being advised to use their air conditioning system when they are home and need it.

The same conditions are forecast for tomorrow, before conditions start to ease from Sunday into the start of next week.

Brisbane hit 3.4 degrees today, but the humidity meant the “feels like” temperature was more like 38 degrees.

Stefan Jarnarson from Solar Analytics told Sofie Formica there are ways to help keep your home cool.

“The things that work are: if you know it’s going to be a hot day, close the blinds early and keep the house as cool as you can because it once it gets hot, very hard to cool it down.”

He also advised against running your air-con throughout the day if you’re not home, and instead looking into insulating your home in the cooler months.
