Heatwave continues for south-east, ‘all the ingredients’ for afternoon storm

Dean & Sofie

Air conditioners are expected to be working into overdrive today as the south-east continues to swelter through a heatwave.

A severe heatwave warning remains in place for south-east coast districts, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 35°C in Brisbane today.

Authorities are urging the public, particularly the vulnerable and elderly, to find somewhere to keep cool.

9News weatherman Luke Bradnam told Laurel, Gary & Mark with humidity “hovering up around 90 per cent”, the likelihood of a storm is quite high.

“We have all the ingredients there today, Laurel,” he said. “The Bureau has only given us about a 20 per cent chance of seeing some storm activity.

“But I think we will see some at certain areas around the south-east. You couldn’t rule it out on a day like today.”
