Star Entertainment to be fined $100 million in Qld
Queensland’s Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman has announced the state government will fine Star Entertainment $100 million and give the company 12 months to “get their house in order”.
The company will have 12 months to make changes or face a 90-day suspension.
Nick Weeks will be appointed Star’s special manager in Queensland, after holding a similar role in NSW.
“Today we are sending a very clear message that unlawful and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in Queensland casinos,” Attorney-General Fentiman said.
It comes after an independent review by former judge Robert Gotterson led the government to find Star Entertainment unsuitable to hold casino licences in Queensland back in October.
Twelve recommendations were made, which have been accepted by the government in-principle.
“Essentially this means that Star as 12 months to get their house in order if they do not want to see a 90-day suspension of their licence.
“These penalties have been considered very carefully following the Gotterson review as well as considering the responses from Star as part of the show clause process.”
