South-east Queensland will swelter through heatwave conditions over the next few days. 

Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-30s, with the mercury to hit 35°C in Brisbane today and 36°C on Thursday.

9News weatherman Garry Youngberry told Laurel, Gary & Mark conditions aren’t due to ease until Friday.

“I suppose you could call it a mini heatwave for us,” he said.

“There’s a heatwave in south-western Queensland, where temperatures are soaring in the mid-40s.

“That heat is being drawn over to our backyard and today is really the start of it.”

Long-range forecaster Ken Kato told Sofie Formica the weather is being caused by hot winds from the interior of Australia.

“They’re blowing toward the coast, so they’re bringing a lot of hot air towards us,” he said.

“With these skies that don’t have much cloud in them at the moment, that allows the land to heat up a lot.”
