More music coming to Brisbane as concert cap is temporarily increased
The number of concerts allowed at Suncorp Stadium each year will be doubled in 2023 and 2024.
The state government has approved the temporary change, which would allow 12 concerts a year, as international acts scramble to lock in tour dates.
“Promoters haven’t been able to put on any concerts for close to three years now,” Suncorp Stadium general manager Alan Graham told Laurel, Gary & Mark.
“There’s a real pent-up demand for it and we’ve had to anticipate that because we’ve got five concerts locked in already for next year.
“We expect there would be a number of others that will come online, so we needed to be in a position where we could accommodate those.”
Mr Graham said the two years of extra concerts will be a major boost for surrounding businesses and Queensland as a whole.
“That economic impact that those sorts of events bring makes a big difference to everyone.”
