Queenslanders left high and dry waiting for flood compensation

Brisbane Live

Deputy Opposition Leader Jarrod Bleijie has joined calls for the state government to move on the promised flood assistance programs.

It’s been revealed many flood-impacted Queenslanders are still waiting for compensation after the devastating February floods.

The $750 million Build Back Better program, a joint partnership between the state and federal governments, would buy back flood-prone homes in Queensland or raise them.

Peter Fegan, filling in on Brisbane Live, said he had spoken to people who were waiting to either rebuild or flood-proof their homes.

Mr Bleijie accused the government of failing to follow through.

“You’ve got people  in tents, you’ve got people if they can’t get tents, they can’t get a roof over their head, they can’t get a rental,” he said.

He said money should have been flowing through the flood-impacted residents, as promised.
