What the government must do as inflation soars

neil breen

Australians are feeling the pinch of rising cost of living pressures across the board, but there are predictions inflation will remain high for into 2023.

The inflation rate has surged to 6.1 per cent from June last year.

Chief executive of the Australian Food and Grocery Council, Tanya Barden, says the data shows Australia is yet to see the peak of the inflation figures.

“Eighteen months is I think at least what is going to take to get inflation down around that 2-3 per cent, it doesn’t mean it’s going to stay up around that 6-7 per cent the whole time,” she said.

“But because so many of these factors are uncertain .. that’s what I am saying I think it could be that long for it to be that low again,” she told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.

She said the government needs to focus cost of living pressures on the most vulnerable.
