A Springfield homeowner has issued a warning for Queenslanders to check their ceilings for hidden water damage after the recent heavy rain and floods.

Linda Jones’ ceiling collapsed in their living room leaving them with a hefty repair bill and clean-up.

She said she heard an “almighty clap” and thought someone had driven into the front of her house.

Insurer RACQ initially put it down to a “glue failure”.

They have since expedited the insurance claim.

But Ms Jones wants to warn others to look out for damage to their ceilings.

“My point for this conversation is please people of Queensland if you have had any damage, lease look up at your ceiling and you will see the damage,” she told Scott Emerson.

She said nails starting to protrude and separation in the ceiling board can be signs of water damage in the roof.
