Caravan park operators are having to turn people away as Queensland’s rental crisis deepens, saying they have never seen anything like it.

After the floods, renters have found themselves without options in what was already a tight rental market.

Owner of the Brisbane Holiday Village in Eight Mile Plains and Ashmore Palms on the Gold Coast, Geoff Illich, says their backbone is those who live in caravan parks.

He says he’s never seen it quite this bad, with a constant flood of enquiries.

“Now Scott we are full, caravan sites are full, campsites are full.

“The flooding event, everyone has moved up here.”

He’s been running the park for 28 years.

At the moment, they have upwards of 20 people applying for one caravan.

They worry about those who they can’t put up.
