Toddler left on daycare bus the only child picked up on run

Latest updates

A three-year-old girl found unresponsive on a daycare bus in Rockhampton has been moved out of the ICU.

Nevaeh Austin was airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital overnight for a deep brain scan and treatment for potential kidney failure.

She is now breathing on her own and has been moved from the ICU.

Nine News reporter D’Alessandro told Sofie Formica Nevaeh was the only child taken to daycare on that bus yesterday.

“Not one of the two of these childcare workers [remembered] about the three-year-old when they arrived.

“Little Nevaeh was discovered when the bus driver, a different bus driver, arrived at the centre to start the drop-off run at around 3pm.”

D’Alessandro earlier told Neil Breen in good news, she has opened her eyes this morning.

“But she still has a very long way to go,” he said. “We’re holding out hope for her and that she pulls through.”

He said there’s been no word yet from the daycare centre.

“We’ve tried calling, we’re on their Facebook page, it’s radio silence.”
