Renowned restaurateurs open doors to ‘classical’ new venue

Carla Bignasca

A 136-year-old heritage-listed building in the heart of Brisbane is set to become a new meeting place.

Rothwells Building on Edward Street is home to the latest venue from 1889 Enoteca’s Dan Clark and Ben Russell, best known for his long tenure as Aria Brisbane’s head chef.

Named after the building which houses it, Rothwell’s takes inspiration from classic grill restaurants around the world, Mr Russell told Sofie Formica.

“The whole concept of this restaurant was just to be really classical; these places which just do classic food with a really big focus on our beverage program.

“The dishes that are familiar and people love and have a connection with.”
