The bold plan for Moreton Bay to ‘stamp’ its position on the map

Australia’s third-largest council plans to shrug its ‘regional’ title and rename itself Moreton Bay City.

Mayor Peter Flannery yesterday moved a motion at a council meeting for the renaming, which was unanimously voted in.

Mr Flannery told Spencer Howson Moreton Bay needs to be “more than just a regional area of south-east Queensland”.

“We’re a lot of metropolis cities together,” he said.

“We’re looking at changing it in time for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.

“It’s about stamping our position, I suppose, in south-east Queensland.”
