No plans to delay re-opening borders despite emergence of new COVID-19 variant

4BC News

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says there is no plan to delay the re-opening of borders into Queensland despite the new variant of COVID-19.

The state is due to open up no December 17, when the 80 per cent double dose rate is reached.

“The plan is still to proceed,” she told reporters this afternoon.

She said she is hoping for an update on the Omicron variant at the National Cabinet meeting tomorrow.

“Thankfully we still have 14 day hotel quarantine for international arrivals at the moment,” she said.

“I will be interested to hear what this actually means for Australia.”

She said she was worried about how many in Australia were not in hotel quarantine.

“We are in a good position because we have mandatory hotel quarantine.”
